Chapter 9: Hunger in Africa

In chapter 9, Billy sees many things wrong in society. The problem is, he does not cry over it. As much as he doesn’t like what is going on, he seems to not be able to show any emotion over it. Living in America, we are spoiled when it comes to eating. As we know, there are many people in countries, like Africa that do not get the right amount of food. We all feel bad for them, but most people cannot seem to show much emotion on that fact.

  1. That's a good point. It also in a way explains the lines of the song in the beginning of the story from 'Away in a Manger'. Jesus remained silent, just like Billy, through the hard times.

  2. I agree with what you are saying here. We are always ready to jump on the latest bandwagon while it remains popular in the media, but we scarcely lift a finger without others there to motivate us. Though many of us feel bad and are willing to help, we often just pass the opportunity by and go on with our everyday lives.
