As I was readng chapter 9, I found an ironic piece. Irony is a discrepancy between appearance and reality. What I thought was ironic about this chapter was that Valencia had a terrible experience driving the car, but still lived. On the other hand, she ended up dying when the car was parked. "Poor Valencia was unconscious, overcome by carbon monoxide." (183) Vonnegut made her survive everything else, but then she died from the unexpected.
I also thought this was very ironic and even a little comical of Vonnegut to write. He uses great imagery and detail to explain how Valencia survived the horrible car acciddent only to die after safely parking the car in front of the hospital.
ReplyDeleteI agree that this situation was very ironic. It was almost humorous but completely awful at the same time. I thought that the crazy crash on the interstate would be impossible to live through, and then the fact that she died afterwards was too tragic. This part of the story must be a little stretched.
